After graduating with a Masters in Economics, Andy began his career in accountancy with EY, building up an understanding of financial accounts. He joined the financial services industry in 2008, a few months before the financial crisis. Joining an Independent Financial Planning company during this period provided Andy with invaluable experience that has defined his philosophy and work ethic. It was apparent that the crisis affected clients in different ways, but one key theme stood out – clients need to fully understand their investment portfolios. Building on his early experiences, Andy is committed to ensuring his clients fully understand the advice he gives them, as well as how their investments are managed. It is this understanding that helps to develop his relationships with clients, on both a personal and professional basis. The emphasis on client relationships is very much the bedrock of Raymond James, Jewry Street. Andy prides himself on his technical knowledge. He is a Chartered Financial Planner and a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society, having won awards along the way recognising his technical knowledge. Most notably, Andy was awarded the 2014 Insurance Institute of London (IIL) Award for being the highest achiever of all IIL candidates when completing the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning examinations. He had previously been awarded the IIL ‘Certificate in Financial Planning Prize’ when completing the Certificate of Financial Planning earlier in his career. While having this level of expertise to call on has undoubtedly benefitted his clients, it is Andy’s eagerness to continue learning that ensures his advice remains relevant. Andy deals with all aspects of financial planning, but his qualifications mean he specialises in pensions and tax planning, where his technical skills can be best utilised. Financial plans are often not straightforward, so Andy’s ability to explain a complex solution in straightforward language is key to building solid relationships. It is these strong relationships that ensure Andy can focus not just on what his clients want, but also on what they need. It is this desire to focus on building long term relationships that inspired Andy, along with Ed Froggatt, to set up Raymond James, Jewry Street, where they can both focus on delivering an exceptional service to their clients across the full financial planning spectrum. Outside of work, Andy enjoys spending time with his wife, son and daughter, and when time permits, the occasional round of golf.

I began my career working at a number of placements at some large fund and investment management companies before settling on private client investment management. I was a founding director of Iain Nicholson Investment Management where as Investment Director I was responsible for asset allocation and management of client portfolios and more latterly Head of Newcastle for Sanlam Private Wealth. I am a Fellow of The Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments and a Chartered Wealth Manager. My objective is to offer a personal approach where knowing you well is integral to fulfilling your requirements. No one is exactly the same and everyone has their own aspirations and needs. From an early age I was taught to spend only what you have and to save up for things. I remember being given the job of counting the coppers that my parents collected in a large pewter jug and being able to keep whatever didn’t make a whole £1. I had a children’s savings account for which I was allowed to look after the pass book and I used to pay in my pocket money along with birthday and Christmas money and could see the compound effect of the interest building up in it. I was always interested in ways I could earn money, whether by washing the car, cutting the grass, having a paper round or, in my teenage years, working in a supermarket and in a golf club kitchen. My parents worked hard to give our family a comfortable life and always saved for the future. However, when they went through a divorce it taught me not to take anything for granted and provided me with the motivation to be self-reliant and more financially aware. It taught me what could happen and to be prepared in life for the unexpected. After A levels, I decided to go to university and study economics as I had enjoyed the subject and wanted to learn more about how the financial system works and how this can be modelled. I didn’t know what financial planning was but I knew that I wanted to work in financial services in some capacity. After graduating (as unfortunately there were no vacancies for a rock star!), I managed to find a job at a financial adviser specialising in retirement advice and based in the City of London. At this point I just wanted a job and to avoid ending up working at HMV; however I soon realised that I could make a difference to people’s lives by helping them to make informed decisions about their retirement and despite being young, I was able to show clients that I could help them by providing impartial advice which put their needs first. In my early twenties, my best friend was diagnosed with cancer and this reinforced my view that nothing is forever, that we all need to plan for an uncertain future and being able to enjoy life is very important. He had worked very hard to start his career and was in a position where without an understanding employer, life would have been even more difficult. Thankfully he fully recovered but I decided that I wanted to take what I had learned about retirement advice and add to this by learning how to help people of all ages to plan for their objectives but also to have protection for them and their families if things do not go to plan. To continue this journey I joined a financial planning firm in the West End of London who shared my desire to provide the best advice possible, to help clients in times of success but also to be prepared when things do not go to plan and be there when help is needed. I was also able to help pass on the knowledge and skills that I had gained to other future financial planners. After 15 years of providing financial planning and assisting in the building of a strong team-based approach, I decided the time was right to join the team at Bloomsbury Wealth. My role at Bloomsbury enables me to develop and continue with my passion for helping families overcome the challenges involved in managing complex affairs and to achieve their personal and financial goals. I also still enjoy mentoring the next generation of financial planners, therefore in my own small way I am ensuring that future generations have access to the benefits of client focused financial planning.

Between 2007 and 2017 Chris was head of Brewin Dolphin’s Oxford office, and prior to that, a Divisional Director of Gerrard, Albert E Sharp, and Brown Shipley in Oxford. Chris graduated with a 2.1 in Energy Technology and Management and then went straight into finance. He started his career at Quilter Goodison in London in 1987 just in time to experience the sharp fall in markets in October that year. Chris is a fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments and manages portfolios for private clients, trusts, and companies as well as pensions and charities, and he has particular experience working with solicitors and accountants to manage trust portfolios. Chris is an Oxford local. He grew up in Milton-under-Wychwood and went to Burford School. Outside work, Chris enjoys spending time with his young family, travelling and the occasional game of sports.

"Greg established Raymond James, Chichester in March 2020 to manage investment portfolios for private individuals, associated family trusts and pensions, as well as charity clients. Greg spends the majority of his time managing client portfolios and is part of the investment team. Greg has spent his entire career in the finance industry, the vast majority of which has been private client investment management, having started in institutional stockbroking. Until November 2019 Greg was head of Rathbones investment management business in Chichester where he had worked for 17 years, the first 8 years as an investment director and the latter 9 years as regional head, responsible for the Chichester office, its management, direction, and future development. He sat on the regional management committee as well as various other committees and projects. During the 17 years Greg was at Rathbones he led the team as well as the strategy, which grew assets under management from below £100m to over £600m. His client base is largely made up of individuals, family groupings and charities. His clients are mainly concentrated in West Sussex and London, with a few overseas. Hans entered the world of investment management through the door of the traditional stockbroker Albert E Sharp, in 1994. Over the next few years he gradually progressed from an International Settlements clerk to Head of the International Dealing & Settlements department. It was a dynamic and enjoyable time, but a liking of people and a desire for more human interaction was the catalyst for study and an eventual change to the management of discretionary and advisory private client portfolios in 1999. Hans manages a wide range of portfolios for individuals, trusts, companies, pensions and charities, and works very well with trusted financial planners where required. Hans has a focus on building meaningful long-term relationships. He is a Chartered Wealth Manager and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. A divergent hairstyle makes it relatively easy to spot Hans running about town or around the countryside near his home. With three sub-three-hour marathons for Woodstock Harriers which he is invariably eager to talk about, it is probably best never to ask. Equally dangerous is the subject of Real Tennis. There are only 45 courts in use in the world today, one of which we are privileged enough to have in town. Oxford University Tennis Club’s court in Merton Street is the second oldest in England and Hans plays there as regularly as he can, although he enjoys each game far more than his achievements in the field might suggest.

Having graduated with a degree in geology in a year in which the oil price halved, which meant that nobody wanted to hire anyone new to go looking for hydrocarbons, I found myself in need of an alternative career. Lesson learned – don’t bank on doing something when external factors over which you have no control can prevent it happening. After a while, I found a firm in central London whose name contained the words ‘financial planning’, a term which I had never encountered before. Until then my knowledge of financial matters was limited to managing a student budget and buying some British Gas shares at issue, which I thought would hardly qualify me to advise anyone else. However, after a remarkably straightforward interview process, I was hired. It then took me a little while to discover that what went on there was far removed from what financial planning actually is, so although I didn’t stay long, I did pick up enough interest to think that this might be a worthwhile career if I could find the right environment. Lesson learned – the name of a company need not tell you anything useful about what it actually does. After extricating myself from there, I moved to a smaller firm in outer London (commuting outwards is easier than inwards) where I had a grand job title but an environment in which I soon found myself feeling still oddly out of place, although I was unsure why. I appeared to do things differently from how my colleagues did and on one occasion was told by my boss that “The problem with you is that you give too good advice”. While I felt that this was not the worst criticism that could have been levelled at me, it had become evident that I was still in the wrong environment and I started looking around with a view to making a strategic move to somewhere in which that trait might be more of an asset than a liability. A few years after making that move and now feeling rather more at home, I was sitting in my office one quiet afternoon and leafing through one of the financial magazines stored near my desk when I came across an article which changed my life. It was about the recent conference of a professional body at which the then Chairman had stood up and announced his vision for the body. Nothing unusual there, except that in this instance it was that it should stand for proper financial planning where the clients’ goals were paramount and in which advice would be paid for by fees rather than the then overwhelmingly prevalent commissions, as the latter represented a conflict of interest for advisers. This was racy stuff back in the early 1990s and evidently it was too much for many of the members, half of whom promptly walked out of the session. What I found interesting (apart from the Chairman having the nerve to say such a thing at the time) was that he said that this was the best thing that ever happened to the body. That body was the Institute of Financial Planning and the then Chairman was Tony Shepherd. This sounded like someone I needed to meet so after a couple of calls (no internet access then – it was 1993), I managed to speak to him and was greatly impressed that he spent 20 minutes talking to an utter nobody and most importantly telling me that there was a London branch at which I could find other like-minded people. I immediately made plans to attend the next meeting and despite knowing absolutely nobody there, came away with the impression that I might actually have found a home where I wasn’t the only person who thought a particular way. I also signed up for a new team challenge financial planning competition on the basis that as I knew that I knew nothing and nobody, spending a weekend at a hotel working on a case study with four proper financial planners was likely to alter both of those states. Astonishingly, we managed to progress through the heats to the final, where we were pushed into the runner-up spot by a team of people with whom I still keep in touch. Wayne's Biography

Wayne is the founder and Branch Principal of the Raymond James Ribble Valley Branch, which he established in 2010 at the age of 27. Over the years, he has been successful in growing the business and team into a 22-strong group of in-house specialists, dedicated to delivering expert financial advice. While playing a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the business, Wayne remains actively involved with clients, ensuring a personal and hands-on approach. He is also a core member of the investment committee, helping drive the firm’s investment strategies.
